This winter, Ben Piao District in Magway Province plans to intercrop more than 300 acres of sesame crops.

The Pwint-byu district of Minbu subdistrict, Magway province, plans to plant more than 300 acres of sesame during the current winter crop planting season, according to information obtained by the Pwint-byu district agricultural office. During the current 2026-27 fiscal year winter crop planting season, Benpiao County plans to plant 321 acres of flowering sesame, with local farmers beginning planting work in November. During the planting season, the Agricultural Bureau will provide subsidies for planting techniques and high-quality seeds to ensure farmers can carry out the planting work without difficulty. "During the upcoming winter crop planting season, we will be conducting outreach to farmers regarding sesame cultivation, ensuring they can plant without difficulty, select suitable purebred varieties for local conditions, prevent pests, and make reasonable use of investment materials," said Daw Moe Moe Wai, head of the Ben Piao District Agriculture Bureau. Note: In the winter of last year (2025), Benpiao County also planned to plant 121 acres of flowering sesame, but actually planted 321 acres, exceeding the planned planting area by 200 acres. This winter, another 321 acres of flowering sesame are planned to be planted, hoping to achieve a good yield and benefit local farmers. Furthermore, among the oilseed crops grown in Myanmar, peanuts, sesame, and sunflowers are the main crops, with sesame ranking only fourth, but still accounting for a certain proportion. In 2023, the total area under sesame cultivation in Myanmar reached 298,839 acres (see the relevant report in the "Myanmar News" section of Myanmar Chinese Network on June 13, 2024). It is hoped that this planting work can play a certain role in solving the problem of "difficulty in obtaining oil" for the people.
