Farmers' hard work in Chhatarpur has gone to waste, with three days of continuous downpour destroying standing urad and sesame crops

Continuous rain across the district for the past three days has shattered the dreams of farmers. Farmers took loans to cultivate their crops. But the rain, like Yamaraj, destroyed their urad and sesame crops. Now, farmers are demanding compensation from the government through a survey. They say that without financial assistance, sowing the next crop will be impossible. The monsoon destroyed on its way Once again, a natural disaster has struck farmers in Chhatarpur. Farmers toiled for four months to harvest a good crop of black gram and sesame. However, the incessant rain destroyed the crops. The continuous downpour for three days wreaked havoc, leaving people stunned. Farmers were particularly affected by the rain. The monsoon, on its way out, devastated them. The rain wreaked havoc on farmers in Badamalhara, Bakswaha, Rajnagar, Naugaon, Maharajpur, Chhatarpur, and Lavkushnagar. Black gram and sesame crops destroyed Rain destroyed the standing urad and sesame crops in the fields of nearly two dozen villages, including Khairi, Pahadi Dhura, Kota, Ota, Purav, Devgaon, Naya Gaon, Udaipur, and Peer Tikri in the Rajnagar tehsil area. Farmer Matadin Patel said, "The urad crop has completely rotted. The sesame crop has turned completely black." Farmers Hari Prasad Patel and Jagannath Patel said, "A lot of money was spent on sowing and caring for the crop. Now, due to the crop failure, they are facing a financial crisis." The crop was sown by taking a loan, now it is ruined. Farmer Hari Patel says, "I took a loan and sowed the crop. Just before the harvest was ready, God struck us down and ruined everything." Farmer Arvind of Kheri village says, "This time, due to the sudden monsoon, the fields were flooded with excess water, which ruined the farmers. Now, we have only hope from the government. An immediate survey of the affected fields should be conducted and proper compensation should be given to them for the crop loss. The affected farmers should also be given the benefit of the insurance amount under the Prime Minister's Crop Insurance Scheme, so that they can get relief from the losses caused by the rain." The water of Singhpur Dam washed away the crops. The situation worsened after continuous rain yesterday. The Irrigation Department opened the eight gates of the Singhpur Barrage, built on the Urmil River, by 4 meters each. Following the opening of the gates, flooding developed in the lower reaches of the barrage. The strong current of water washed away 90% of the peanut crop belonging to farmers in the villages of Khaptaya, Devikheda, Silpatpura, Bhaira, Panchampur, and Bara Digouni, along with other villages adjacent to the dam. This caused widespread outrage among farmers.Farmers Jagdish Mishra, Kamta Patel, Prakash Patel, Rakesh Patel said, "The sesame crop was ruined due to excessive rain. There were hopes from the peanut crop, but the dam water washed away this crop as well." Instructions for conducting crop survey Hari Prasad Patel of Kheri village says, "The urad crop rotted due to continuous rain. Whatever little was left was ruined by the rain. Fertilizer, seeds, labor, and input costs were all wasted." Farmer Mohan Patel says, "The crop was damaged due to continuous rain. A survey should be conducted." ADM Vinay Dwivedi says, "A survey will be conducted to assess the farmers' losses and crop loss. Appropriate action will be taken after the report is received."
