  • Panruti sesame Price drop due to Poor Quality

    Thousands of acres of irrigated land are being cultivated by farmers in hundreds of villages in and around Panruti such as Balur, Kandarakkottai, Perumbakkam, Guagam, Manalur, Somasipalayam, Oraiyur and Madappattu. However, at the present time of the sesame harvest, the prices have come down due to low supply of sesame seeds to the Panruti Order System. The farmers have suffered greatly. Last year, the Panruti Regulatory Commission sold 100 to 150 bags of sesame seeds a day to farmers. But this year it is only 30 bags a day. Last year a bags of sesame was priced at Rs 11,000, this year at Rs. The price is going up to 8.300. In addition, the quality of sesame soaked in the rain decreases. In many more villages farmers are suffering from not being able to harvest and dry them due to this rain. Farmers also said that prices have come down due to this. Farmers are suffering as prices fall.
